Our mission statement is as follows: FATHERS is a non-profit group of men and women dedicated to the belief that  No loving father should go childless and no child should go fatherless because of outdated, meaningless, biased, and unenforceable laws, practices, and social habits . We believe that the people of Paducah and the surrounding counties will not stand for the injustices faced by divorced fathers once this issue is made fully public. Although the group is named FATHERS we do have mothers in our group that have been treated just as unfairly. This group stands for fairness and justice regardless of gender. It is only fitting that we should have come to be in this wonderful, giving, caring community of Paducah. This is a community of sound reason and foresight as is evidenced by the attitudes of our citizens and churches, as well as shown by the accomplishments of our community. The Four Rivers Center, the Artist Relocation Program, the downtown development and etc., are all visible signs of the strength and forward thinking of this beautiful area in which we are blessed to call home. Keep up the good work! I am writing in regard to what FATHERS considers one of the most traumatic and psychologically damaging events that face our youth today, divorce. More than 50 % of marriages end in divorce, most affect children in one way or another. Everyone knows someone who has been through a bad divorce and the long term emotional and social problems that face this person in recovering and becoming a  normal part of society again. We all know that one person who never quite got over the bitterness and anger, and the way in which their divorce has scarred, them sometimes for life. Just imagine a teenager, ten, or even a five year old caught up in this mess. Everyone with children knows what the parent feels and believes deeply impacts what the child feels and believes. Then just imagine that on top of this terrible trauma one of your parents and that whole side of your family is removed from your life. How can we possible expect this to not have a permanent negative impact on a young person s life. We are trying to convince our local family court that both parents and all of the family is the best way to raise our children. That the court should not only recognize the importance of full family involvement, but strive to maintain it. That the court should take decisive actions to prevent anyone from obstructing the parent/child relationship, (this includes the legal community).
