Archer presented himself as a shark that agrees with the partisan politics because he can use it to his favor. He was very insulting and manipulative, and obviously spends his time hobnobbing with his fellow big business buddies instead of the average Joe on the street. He is good at spinning his image, and did keep a lot of the debate focused on the business aspect senatorial duties. This is only a small part of the job. He said almost nothing on any other aspect of the position because he only knows business. It's difficult to debate someone like that because so many inaccuracies are told and it's nearly impossible to nail them down at the time.   His homework may have been done for him.
